Nick Johnston - Co-Founder


Emma Chang - Co-Founder; Hornist

Emma Chang, age 17, is the co-president of the SDA Music Club.  Emma has played the French horn for five years, since which she has held principal seats in the SDA Wind Ensemble and the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra, attended the California All-State Bands and the Kendall Betts Horn Camp, and been very active in the local musical community.  She has always wanted to be able to organize concerts and performances with her musician friends, and for her, this club is the perfect opportunity to do so.

Max Opferkuch - Webmaster; Clarinetist
Max Opferkuch, age 17, is the SDA Music Club's blog webmaster.  Max has been playing the clarinet as his primary instrument for five years, since which he has held principal seats in the SDA Wind Ensemble and the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra, won numerous competitions, and attended the California All-State Bands and the 2015 Tanglewood Institute.  Prior to the clarinet, he began piano at the age of five and switched to violin (which he continues to play) at the age of 10.  Primarily involved in classical and contemporary repertoire, Max enjoys forming chamber ensembles and organizing performances outside of his orchestra and band rehearsals, and thinks that the SDA Music Club will be the perfect outlet for these initiatives.


Annie Pugmire - Volunteer/Musical Therapy; Violinist
Annie Pugmire, 16 years old, has been playing the piano for about 10 years and the violin for 8. In this club, Annie is working in the volunteer/ musical therapy chapter as part of her gold award for Girl Scouts, that takes musical therapy into the community to help those in need.  Annie has played in several orchestras and quartets (currently in San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra) and has performed regularly in church and retirement homes.  Annie hopes to be able to share her love of music with those in need to help them feel peace and solace in their lives, and to be able to connect with others about more opportunities in music.

Alexis Hale - Treasurer; Hornist, Violinist and Pianist
Alexis Hale, 17, is a hornist in the SDA Wind Ensemble.  Alexis has been trained in classical piano for ten years, and has been playing the violin and horn for five years.  Alexis has been involved in a number of ensembles, from jazz band to Wind Ensemble and even in a mariachi band.  Alexis has performed multiple church and retirement home gigs as a volunteer.  Alexis hopes to utilize the Music Club to play more music and spread the joy of music to more people.

Devon McCrea - Guitarist/Euphoniumist
Devon McCrea is a 17 year-old Senior at San Dieguito Academy.  He has studied classical guitar since he was 9 with his teacher and mentor Greg Shirer.  He has participated with the Encinitas Guitar Orchestra in the ensemble and as a soloist for the past two years.  He participated in master classes and private lessons with the Royal Family of the Guitar, the Romeros, at the Celedonio Romero Guitar Institute, at Oklahoma City University.  In addition to guitar, he plays euphonium with the Wind Ensemble at SDA.

Emma Daughters-Volunteer/Music Therapy; Vocalist/Guitarist/Percussionist/Ukulelist
Emma Daughters, age 17, was born with a deep passion for music. She has been playing drums for six years, guitar and ukulele for five, and singing her entire life. While her formal training in these instruments is minimal, she practices everyday and embraces the money-saving aspect of being a self-taught musician. She enjoys writing music and playing on the worship team at her church. This past summer, she began volunteering with nonprofit Music Therapy organization Resounding Joy Inc. Emma will be majoring in Music Therapy in college and aspires to one day be a practicing music therapist in a rehabilitation unit for physically disabled children.

Vivien Vaucher - Violinist and Guitarist
Vivien Vaucher, age 17, is a violinist and guitarist with the SDA Music Club.  She has been playing violin for 15 years, and guitar for the past two.  Currently, she sits in the first violin section of the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra.  Vivien looks forward to having wonderful opportunities to be able to share her love of music with the community through the SDA Music Club.

Zack Edwards - Bassoonist
Zack Edwards, 14, has been playing bassoon for two years and is principal bassoonist of the SDA Wind Ensemble and the New Youth Orchestra, as well as a member of the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra.  In 7th and 8th grade, Zack was first chair bassoon in the county and district honor bands, and in 8th grade, he was accepted into the top middle school All-State honor band.  Zack is currently a finalist in the New Youth Orchestra's concerto competition, performing at the highest category of wind players.  Zack hopes to meet new people, find new opportunities, and get involved with the SDA music scene through the club.

Sophia Liedtke - Clarinetist
Sophia Liedtke, 14, is a clarinetist in the SDA Wind Ensemble.  Sophia has been playing clarinet for 5 1/2 years and has attended multiple honor bands, music camps, and workshops in past years.  Sophia hopes to have many opportunities to share her love of music in the community.

Luke Fosgett - Tubist
Luke Fosgett, 14, is a tubist in the SDA Wind Ensemble.  Luke has been playing music since 4th grade and has played in many orchestras and bands around San Diego county.  Luke wants to volunteer as often as possible in this club.

Alexa Kent - Pianist and Percussionist
Alexa Kent, age 17, is a percussionist in the SDA Wind Ensemble and has played piano for 7 years and percussion for 1 year, in addition to Ukulele.  Alexa hopes to find more opportunities to volunteer and perform through this club.

Gaetano Irrera - Vocalist
Gaetano Irrera, age 16, is an SDA Music Club Vocalist.  He has never taken a singing class but hopes to share what he has with the community.  He is very excited about this club and wants to further expand the club and keep it going for years to come.

Andrew Silverstein - Saxophonist
Andrew Silverstein, 16, is an alto saxophonist in the SDA Wind Ensemble.  Andrew has been playing for four years, and hopes to have opportunities to play around San Diego through this club.


Caeden Schlosser - Multiinstrumentalist
Caeden Schlosser, 14, has played a number of instruments for seven years and has volunteered at musical events.  He has written 10 songs and has received multiple awards and scholarships for his work.  Through the club, Caeden hopes to get to play more music and to enjoy music with others.

Lila Duga - Flautist and Singer
Lila Duga, 16, is a flautist in the SDA Wind Ensemble, a singer, and a volunteer.  Lila has been playing the flute for seven years, and hopes to help the music community and have opportunities to perform through the club.


Karla Peña - Flautist, Clarinetist and Pianist
Karla is a flautist in the SDA Wind Ensemble, and also plays the clarinet and has taught herself the piano.  Through this club, Karla hopes to find music-related volunteer opportunities.

Lauren Broderick - Flautist, Guitarist, and Singer
Lauren Broderick, 17, is a flautist in the SDA Wind Ensemble, and also sings and plays guitar.  Lauren has been playing music for eight years, and has done volunteer work at City Hall art events.  Lauren hopes to find further volunteer opportunities through this club.

Jac Ostrie - Bassist, bassoonist, clarinetist, saxophonist
Jac Ostrie, 16, is a bassoonist in the SDA Wind Ensemble and a double bassist in the San Diego Youth Symphony's Sinfonia.  Jac has played bass for five years and bassoon for three years, and has also played clarinet and saxophone.  Jac has also participated in the SDUHSD honor band.  Through the club, Jac hopes to find more opportunities to play outside of band and contribute to the influence of music in the community.

Yoni Kruvi - Trumpet
Yoni Kruvi, 16, is a trumpet player in the SDA Wind Ensemble, and has been playing trumpet for seven or eight years.  Yoni has been awarded the SDA Louis Armstrong award and has participated in the SDUHSD honor bands.  Through the club, Yoni hopes to gain playing experience and to play in places and events he might not normally hear about.

L. Noon - Pianist and Percussionist
L. Noon, 16, initially started piano in the 1st grade and played numerous recitals with the Virtuosos Russian Music Academy in LA, which ended after moving to Encinitas.  Since then, Noon has participated in middle school band as a percussionist, and self-taught piano, guitar, and fundamental music theory all throughout high school.  Noon hopes to relearn skills lost due to lack of practice as well as expanding musical repertoire.

Andrew Fromme - Violinist
Andrew Fromme, 14, has been playing the violin for six months.  Through this club, Andrew hopes to further expand his musical knowledge and experience.
